Today's Predictions for Tomorrow's Internet

NCSAM Week3It's week 3 of National Cyber Security Awareness Month!  This week's topic is Today's Predictions for Tomorrow's Internet and it's about how the internet is becoming a network that connects everything to the individual.

As a reminder, we will highlight a new topic each week and we invite our clients, partners, friends and family to join us and discuss the latest recommendations on Facebook and LinkedIn!

Here are few quick tips to help stay secure!  #CyberAware

  • Safeguard your devices
    • Research how to keep your devices and applications secure and remember to update them over time!
    • Check ratings and research on apps and devices to make sure others had positive experiences, especially from a security and privacy standpoint!
    • Uninstall applications that you do not need or no longer use
  • Own your online presence
    • Understand what information your devices collect and how your info is managed and stored
    • Set privacy and security settings to your comfort level for information sharing
    • IT IS OK to limit how & whom you share your info with!
  • Wireless Considerations
    • Have a strong WiFi password and consider having a unique SSID/name
    • Setup a Guest WiFi network that is isolated from your home or business network.  Protect it as well and only share the password with those you trust!
    • Public WiFi and Hotspots are not typically secure.  Consider any information exchanged on them as visible to strangers.
  • #LockDownURlogin
    • Secure your online accounts and devices with strong authentication
    • Usernames and passwords are not enough for key accounts, such as banking, e-mail, social media, remote server access, etc.
    • Consider using 2-step verification where ever possible
